Meet Terry: A Champion of Collaboration and Creativity

Once you get him started, Terry can talk about just about anything. But if there’s one recurring theme, it’s encouragement. “They can do it,” he told me multiple times during our 20-minute conversation. “You just need the motivation.”

Terry believes in you. Yes, you reading this. Just like he believes in so many others. “So many people have gifts and talents,” he says, echoing the words of our founder, Doris Lebby. His unwavering support for others makes him a perfect addition to Creative Purpose Collective, a cultural arts gift shop in Grand Forks, North Dakota. His vision aligns flawlessly with ours.

For Terry, creativity thrives in collaboration. He believes we’re stronger together and that artists should embrace community over isolation. “Are you going to reach the world alone?” he asks. Places like our local artisan gift shop help makers gain exposure and connect with a wider audience, and this mission resonates deeply with him.

As a Native American artist, veteran, and entrepreneur, Terry stands at the intersection of many communities. His creativity reflects that rich blend of experiences. His journey into artistry began with a simple yet meaningful project, covering lampshades alongside his wife. From there, he expanded to handcrafted, fabric-covered light switches, asking himself, "What else can I do?" Now, he creates stunning handcrafted jewelry inspired by Native culture. Lightweight yet bold in appearance, his fabric-covered earrings are a testament to his ever-evolving creativity. Each piece is more than an accessory—it’s a reflection of his heritage, creativity, and passion.

Yet, Terry is doing more than working with fabric and crafting unique designs. He is also the visionary behind Vets in the Park, a premier annual event in Grand Forks. "There's nothing to do for veterans," he once proclaimed. As a veteran with a son who also served, Terry saw the need for more veteran-centered events in the Greater Grand Forks community. When asked what he envisioned, he exclaimed, "We can just go to the park."

Now in its fourth year, Vets in the Park brings together veterans, families, and local organizations. The event offers resources for veterans, plus food trucks, city services, and live music, creating a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere.

We’re honored to showcase Terry’s work at Creative Purpose Collective. Stop by our Grand Forks gift shop to explore his handcrafted Native American jewelry, fabric-covered light switches, and other unique creations. Each one is a testament to his artistry, passion, and commitment to community.
